Why I Created a Symbol for Protection

July 24, 20263 min read

There was a time in my life when I didn't feel particularly safe.

Not because I was in immediate danger.

But because I often felt vulnerable.

I found I was making myself smaller.

Looking down as I walked.

Trying not to draw attention to myself.

As though disappearing into the background somehow felt safer than being seen.

I don't think I realised I was doing it at first.

It became a habit.

A way of moving through the world.

Over time, I began to notice something.

When I felt anxious, my body changed before my thoughts did.

My shoulders rounded.

My head dropped.

My breathing became shallow.

I wasn't just thinking differently.

I was carrying myself differently.

That made me wonder...

What if I had something that could interrupt that pattern?

Not something that would magically make me feel safe.

But something that would remind me of the person I wanted to be.

That's where my Protection symbol began.

When I created it, I wasn't trying to create a lucky charm.

I was creating a reminder.

A reminder to lift my head.

To stand a little taller.

To remember that I didn't have to make myself smaller in order to feel protected.

Sometimes, before leaving the house, I'd put on something with the symbol on it.

Nothing around me had changed.

The world was exactly the same.

But something inside me had.

The symbol became a cue.

A small visual reminder that helped me reconnect with the intention I'd already chosen.

It encouraged a different mindset.

And that mindset changed how I carried myself.

I often describe it as putting on a shield.

Not because I believed the symbol itself had protective powers.

But because it reminded me that I already had strength within me.

The symbol didn't create confidence.

It reminded me to access it.

That's an important difference.

Over time, I realised something else.

Protection doesn't mean the same thing to everyone.

For one person, it might mean setting healthier boundaries.

For someone else, it might mean protecting their peace.

It could mean emotional safety.

Physical safety.

Protecting your energy.

Protecting your time.

Protecting your family.

Or simply reminding yourself that you deserve to take up space.

That's why I don't believe I get to decide exactly what this symbol means for someone else.

I create it with an intention.

The person who chooses to wear it completes the story.

That's one of the things I love most about symbols.

They don't tell us what to think.

They give us somewhere to begin.

Carry the Protection Symbol

Today, I still wear my Protection symbol.

Not because I believe it has magical powers.

But because it reminds me of something I sometimes forget.

To lift my head.

To take up space.

To trust that I don't need to make myself smaller in order to feel safe.

That's what Protection means to me.

It might mean something completely different to you.

Perhaps it's about setting healthier boundaries.

Perhaps it's about protecting your peace.

Perhaps it's simply a reminder that you're stronger than you realise.

The meaning is personal.

The symbol simply gives that intention somewhere to live.
